Blindfold reading is another on of the “powers” that Nithyananda calls “Shaktis” allegedly provided by him to the manifester are regarded as “proof” that Nithyananda is the Avatar.

Therefore, surely it is reasonable to argue that if any of these “powers” are faked it seriously calls into question that Nithyananda is the Avatar and arguably nothing more than a cult leading con-man.

Of course from time immemorial there have been ones who faked powers, or used parlour tricks to have others follow them. So it should not be a surprise that this happens today. Of course nobody wants to be deceived but unfortunately sometimes we let our desire to believe something overrule our critical thinking and prevent us from making a sound decision. This is exactly how people become trapped into cults and remain there.

This article will address the “power” of blindfold reading. We have already dealt with the “power” of materialization of precious stones – FAKED Materialization of Diamonds and Precious Stones at Nithyananda Ashram

I hope you are brave enough to analyse some of these alleged “manifestations of power” for yourself.

The true tests come down to what you personally can evidence. Different ones at the ashram have varying degrees of “expertise” in their abilities to deceive others. Sadly some of the best are the children.

It is our hope that this article will increase your awareness of the way such blindfold reading can be faked, but also help you to realise that Nithyananda does not allow external people to properly construct an environment where these socalled shakti/power manifesters can be authentically tested.

If we can prove an instance of such a “manifesting” blindfold reading as a simple parlour trick to you, would you not consider it is necessary to reconsider any blind faith belief in the honesty and integrity of these practitioners of Nithyananda? And in turn the possibility that you are also being tricked in other areas?

In this regard I invite you to watch the video to the right. It has unfortunately required editing out some of the original footage due to harassment from the Nithyananda ashram against the YouTuber in the form of a bogus copyright claim. Please look at this without bias, and consider the ramifications for yourself.

Notice how zealous the ashram is with censoring anything that is not compimentary of them. Note what MrNoobophile says in regards to the bogus copyright claim that caused his critique video of the event to be flagged by YouTube and taken down.

An assessment of a blindfold reading demonstration from the NIthyananda Ashram

Coverups are par for the course at the ashram

In the video to the right, you can learn how blindfold reading is done, courtesy of Mr James III

In it he himself demonstrates how he can easily blindfold read.

How much does this blindfold reading really use some superpowers or shaktis and how much of it is careful blindfold selection and placment?

In 2015 Ma Nithya Mahayogananda, at the time a nine year of Nithyananda Gurukul was exposed in St Louis by a magician familiar with the blindfold ruse. The magician, Mason, was ultimately kicked out for questioning the authenticity of the supernatural claim and seeking to have the blindfold test performed in a way that would actually validate the claim. Of course such a scientific method is the last thing people involved in a conspiracy would want. The article may be found at  A Controversial Religion Claiming Supernatural Powers? St. Louis Magicians Cry Fraud. Mason was well placed to assess the claims and had brought with him additional expertise:

Nithyananda gurukal child Ma Nithya Mahayogananda on stage “performing” third eye blindfold reading as three magicians with over a century of combined slight of hand experience are there to expose the Nithyananda operatives

Mason doesn’t join in the audience’s applause. He’s here with an ulterior motive: to expose this “demonstration” as a fraud. And he’s brought along help in the form of two legendary magicians, Hari Monti and John Apperson. Collectively, they share more than two centuries of magic experience.

As a long time magician and meditator, Mason knows the difference between a trick and the supernatural:

The layered scarves, the blindfold, the ritualized spectacle — none of this shocks Mason. A long-time magician, he knows the placing of multiple blindfolds is mere misdirection, a veil of authenticity to distract the audience while the performer (in this case, the little girl) readjusts the fabric to create a space between her nose and cheek. From this opening, she can easily read the text of the business card being held six inches in front of her face.

Accepting critique and adapting these demonstrations to meet the demands of the sceptical is absolutely against the ashram policy from my experience there. Actually not questioning, failure to use critical thinking, is a very positive indicator of a devoted cultee.

Nithyanandas gurukul children are not the only ones being presented as having such dubious superpowers. In fact the blindfold reading in India is popular enough for it to require public exposing by Dr. Narendra Nayak , President of FIRA ( Federation of Indian Rationalist associations) who has been campaigning against this scam for some time now.

Comprehensive video exposing the children taught to lie and fake blindfold reading increasingly common in India
In the video to the right you will see the scam completely exposed. If you are a believer of the powers of these gurukal children you really need to watch this in its entirety. Regarding the video on YouTube it says:

Many fraudulent companies have sprung up in various parts of India, claiming that they can “increase the brain power” of children , or make them “geniuses” through a ‘course’ in which they would “activate the midbrain” (or “activate the third eye”) of children.

On a public demonstration held at Kozhikode ( Calicut), Kerala on 19th April 2015 , he convincingly demonstrated that the ‘blindfolded reading’ is just a trick that can be taught to children in no time.

Mr James III has covered several of the Nithyananda Super Powers or Shaktis in his video to the left:

  • How to Roll Coconuts with your Third Eye
  • How to Manifest Diamonds & Pearls
  • How to Read Blindfolded
You can get these Shaktis for FREE by watching this video and following the spiritual guidance closely.

Instead of paying $10000-$15000 on a Nithyananda course, you can get it for FREE.

For some background to what is claimed by Nithyananda and his devotees, Nithyananda makes a big deal of saying his powers are not Siddhis, but Shaktis. He says that Siddhis promote ego because the applicant has worked to attain that power, but to the contrary, powers given by him don’t create ego because work has not been required. From my experience with sannyasis and adheenavasis at the ashram those that “think” they have some power given to them have both an elevated ego because they are “blessed” to have power from their Avatar and a diminished sense of self belief as they are indoctrinated to think that any and all powers come from Nithyananda who they believe to be the literal incarnation of Shiva.

Siddhis, according to Wikipedia are:

Siddhis (Sanskrit and Pali : सिद्धि; Kannada: ಸಿದ್ಧಿ; Telugu: సిద్ధి; Tamil: சித்தி; Tibetan: དངོས་གྲུབ, THL: ngödrup,) are spiritual, paranormal, supernatural, or otherwise magical powers, abilities, and attainments that are the products of spiritual advancement through sādhanās such as meditation and yoga.

“Shaktis” are a concept coined by Nithyananda and only have a tangential relationship to their usual meaning. Quoting wikipedia again, Shakti is:

Shakti (Devanagari: शक्ति, IAST: Śakti; .lit “power, ability, strength, might, effort, energy, capability”[1]), is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe[2] in Hinduism and Shaktism.

Shakti is the concept or personification of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as “The Great Divine Mother” in Hinduism. As a mother, she is known as “Adi Shakti” or “Adi Parashakti”. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity/fertility, though it is also present in males in its potential, unmanifest form.[3] Hindus believe that Shakti is both responsible for creation and the agent of all change. Shakti is cosmic existence as well as liberation, its most significant form being the Kundalini Shakti, a mysterious psychospiritual force.[4][5]

Nithyananda claims that his concept of Shaktis is derived from a set of specific Agamas, but for the past year or so that he has been using the word, he has not released any of them whether as originals or in translation, apart from an ebook on his website that is entirely self-serving.

In this case, it may not even be necessary to go down to the level of scripture. Nithyananda’s badly veiled attempt to subvert a well-established yogic tradition of indifference towards siddhis with his own incoherent concept of shaktis will not go unnoticed to most educated Hindus. It gives the feeling he is simply attempting to make excuses for his unacceptable goals. He is fooling people who do not care to find information outside of nithyananda’s words. Why the rules and warnings of the past regarding this matter were in place? They were in place to prevent the very things Nithyananda is now engendering: egoism, self-absorption, false hope and spiritual stagnancy.

And most importantly, even if  shaktis were as real siddhis,, if those you look up you are faking them, there is no point in it, is there?
